Creating Curiosity Workshop - Canterbury

Creating Curiosity Workshop - Canterbury
Are you an adult volunteer keen to create curiosity through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)? Participate in a one day workshop to help design and deliver a program for 2019!

The Canterbury workshop in October has been cancelled due to low numbers. Registrations are still open for the workshop in Yarraville in November.

Girl Guides Victoria are looking for adult volunteers seeking to create curiosity through STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) related activities specially designed for Guides. Our volunteers will participate in one workshop (either 13 October or 10 November) to help design activities suitable for Guides, in collaboration with Deakin University STEM Ambassadors (students) and staff. Activities will be different to what is currently being offered in Victorian schools. The activities from both workshops will be collated for delivery to other Guide Leaders at Region-based workshops in 2019.

If this sounds intriguing to you, and you think you could be an amazing STEM champion for Girl Guides Victoria, read on...

Requirements for Project Volunteers:
- Must have the skills and willingness to be a STEM Leader in their Region.
- Ability to assist delivery of Region-based 1 day workshops for other Guide Leaders before the end of Term 3, 2019.
- Ability to help deliver 2-night camps for youth members before the end of Term 1, 2020.
- Ideally have a career, background, and/or experience in STEM, but not mandatory.
- Ability to deliver activities using the WAGGGS Girl Guide-Girl Scout Educational Method.
- Must comply with volunteer requirements for Girl Guides Victoria, as an adult member.
- You do not need to be a qualified Unit Leader to take on this role.

To express your interest in this role, please register for one of the Creating Curiosity Workshops. Please fill in as much information as possible about your career, background, and/or experience in STEM as possible.

On the day, morning and afternoon tea will be provided but you will need to bring your own lunch. Wear closed toed shoes and comfortable clothes.

Background to Project:
Through the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Girl Guides Victoria has received a grant to increase awareness and participation in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) to Guides across Victoria. The program will be developed in collaboration with Deakin University School of Engineering, Deakin STEM Ambassadors, and Girl Guides Victoria volunteers who have STEM experience and/or careers. The program will include robotics, environmental STEM, AR/VR (augmented reality and audio visual), and an introduction to entrepreneurship. As of September 2018, we are seeking short-term Project Volunteers to help us to implement this grant.

As the project is funded, it is important that we meet specific deadlines and milestones, therefore the Project Volunteers must also be committed to meeting these milestones.
